Laptop Bag from an Old Jeans Laptoptasche aus einer alten Jeans

My oldest daughter needed a laptop bag as a present for her friend. She chose a jeans and a shirt from my DH and looked for a pattern. She found a nice  tutorial in the book "A Bag for all Reasons" by Lisa Lam. The pattern was made for an I Pad  but we changed the size and went with this tutorial.
Because of several layers of thick interfacing and bulky handles the last seam was a pain to sew and I we broke a new denim needle but my old Pfaff machine went through it.  The bag was worth it, don't you think so?

Meine älteste Tochter wollte ihrem Freund eine Laptop Tasche nähen und bat mich um Hilfe. Sie fand eine alte Jeans  und ein Oberhemd vom besten Ehemann der Welt und legte los: Eine gute Anleitung für eine I Pad Tasche fand sich in dem Buch "A Bag for all Reasons" von Lisa Lam.Sie hat die Maße an den Laptop angepasst, die Anleitung fand ich ganz wunderbar und gut zu nähen. Die letzten Nähte waren eine Herausforderung, weil die Stoffe und Einlagen und Träger so dick waren. Uns hat es eine nagelneue 100 er Jeansnadel gekostet, aber ich finde das Ergebnis kann sich sehen lassen.

Bocholt Textile Museum Textilmuseum in Bocholt

With friends from my first knitting group ( we meet since 1980) we visited the Textile Museum in Bocholt, Germany.

Mit alten Freundinnen unserer Strickgruppe, die sich seit 1980 regelmäßig trifft haben wir das Textilmuseum in Bocholt besucht. Ich kann es nur jedem empfehlen! Die Webstühle werden noch heute benutzt und den Besuchern vorgeführt.

Handi Quilter Booth at the Expo Veldhoven

At the Expo in Veldhoven in May 2013 we had our first HandiQuilter booth showing the Avanté longarm machine and the Sweet Sixteen midarm machine.

Driftwood Sweater

I finished my Driftwood Sweater with Noro Silk Garden yarn and GGH yarn several weeks ago and Marie took a picture at the beach in Damp.


Vor einigen Wochen habe ich meinen Driftwood Pullover fertig genadelt und ihn am Strand von Damp fotografieren lassen.

Damp and a Birthday

Last weekend we visited my hubby in Damp. A quilting friend invited us to stay in her summer house.

Letztes Wochenende haben wir meinen DH in Damp an der Ostsee besucht. Wir durften im Ferienhaus von meiner Quiltfreundin wohnen und haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt. Ihr könnt das Ferienhaus mieten. Es können 6 Personen dort übernachten und auch für eine kleine Gruppe von Strickerinnen oder Quilterinnen ist dort genug Platz. Man läuft nur 10 Min. zum Strand.

This is where my Hubby resides.  This inspires me to make a quilt. 1970ies architecture.

Hier wohnt mein Mann. 70ger Jahre Architektur mit Farbe aufgefrischt. Die Farben könnte man gut in einem Quilt umsetzen.




Marie turned 22 that day. Happy Birthday! It was freezing cold but sunny.

Was gibt es schöneres als an seinem Geburtstag morgens früh schon einen Strandspaziergang bei schönstem Sonnenwetter zu machen. Nun wisst ihr auch, wie alt Marie geworden ist.












We visited Kappeln harbor, where you can eat at the "Black Pearl " Restaurant. We chose to have sandwiches with fresh smoked fish and egg sandwiches for the vegetarians to go and skipped the restaurant visit. Anna-Lena, my oldest daughter came with us for the weekend.


Mittags sind wir nach Kappeln gefahren und haben uns den Hafen und die kleine Altstadt angeschaut. Gegessen haben wir nicht im Black Pearl sondern haben uns Fischbrötchen bzw. Eierbrötchen gekauft und sie auf einer Bank im Hafen verzehrt. Anna-Lena, unsere älteste Tochter hat uns begleitet.


Nachmittags fuhren wir zur berühmten  "Wollsucht" nach Flensburg. Der kleine Laden quillt über mit der schönsten Wolle, die es bei uns leider nicht zu kaufen gibt. Ich habe Wolle für meinen zweiten "Color Affection Shawl" gekauft. Das Alpaka Garn von Drops hat neue Banderolen mit süßen Lamas.

In the afternoon we went to Flensburg to visit the yarn shop "Wollsucht" to buy some wool. For my second "Color Affection Shawl" I bought these Drops Alpaka skeins with the new llama picture. Anna-Lena and Marie also found some yarn and we all left the store with smiling faces. Marie  wrote a blog post too, jump over and see what she got.

Alterfil Thread , Alterfil Nähgarn

At the Creativa Fair in Dortmund I worked at the Babylock booth where we presented our Q-Drive Longarm machine.  One of our neighbors was Alterfil , a producer of fine sewing thread. Some of their threads are manufactured in Germany. They gave me a spool of their polyester embroidery thread to test it on our longarm machine and it worked very well. We had no thread breaking during the fair.
I attended a Give Away to subscribe to their newsletter and won a gift certificate for their online store. This is what I chose, 3000m Cones of polyester embroidery thread. They send me Robison Anton thread and I can't wait to give it a try on my longarm Emmi.

Auf der Creativa hatte auch die Firma Alterfil einen Stand. Sie produzieren ihre Nähgarne in Deutschland ( Sachsen ) und bieten sehr gute Garne an. Da Babylock  dort auch einen Stand hatte und wir die  Q-Drive Longarm Maschine dort vorführten habe ich das Polyester Stickgarn von Alterfil gleich getestet. Während der gesamten Messetage ist uns das Garn nicht gerissen. Das Stichbild ist schön brilliant und ich bin mit dem Garn sehr zufrieden.
Um den Newsletter von Alterfil zu erhalten habe ich einen Zettel ausgefüllt, der dann in die Lostrommel kam . Nach der Messe bekam ich den Newsletter und sah meinen Namen unter den Gewinnern.
Ich habe einen Gutschein für den Online Shop gewonnen und ihn sofort eingelöst um das Polyester Stickgarn zu kaufen.

Longarm Class at Handi Quilter in Salt Lake City

This post was hibernating as a blog draft for 20 months.

The Baby Lock Germany Company I work for sent  my French coworker Jo and me to a longarm quilting training held at the headquarter of  Handi Quilter, manufactorer of the  best longarm machines.

Together with my coworker Jo we spent a week  in Salt Lake City to be trained on a longarm machine by Handi Quilter. The people at Handi Quilter are the nicest, most generous people you can think of.
Our demonstrators did a great job to show us all the tips, techniques and tricks about longarm quilting.
We learned all about tension, threads, pantographs and rulers.
Thank you very much, Vicky, Hattie, Chery, Mindy and Marie for answering every question.

At Handi Quilter's head quarter there were quilts on display anywhere. Even in the bathroom and the offices you could see them.

After working on the longarm machines we went shopping . I don't remember the name of this little village but there were nice shops like Quilt shops, Yarn Shops  Gift shops and more.
